Virtual Private Cloud – isolated private networks

Virtual Private Cloud: isolated networks

Connect your servers within private networks isolated from the internet – for secure internal communication and a clean architecture.

  • Completely isolated – private traffic remains private
  • Free segmentation by environment and application
  • Internal traffic included – quickly and directly via the internet
  • GDPR-compliant from German data centres

Private communication for your cloud resources

Virtual Private Clouds allow you to separate internal communications from the public internet – the foundation of secure, multi-tiered architectures.

True isolation

Your VPC is a private network: servers communicate via internal IP addresses, which are inaccessible from the public internet and to other customers.

Clear segmentation

Separate production, staging and development, or isolate applications from one another – by using separate subnets for each environment.

Fast internal traffic – free of charge

Data transfer to and within VPCs is free of charge, and you can create as many VPCs as you like at no extra cost. Excess data transfers from VPCs cost just €0.001 per GB – significantly less than with other cloud providers.

Smaller attack surface

Databases and internal services no longer require a public IP address – only what really needs to be accessible remains so.

Architecture based on best practice

Multi-stage set-ups made easy

Typical setup: a load balancer and web server with a public connection, whilst the application and database layers are located exclusively within the VPC. Combined with cloud firewalls at the gateway and managed services for operations, this creates an architecture that combines security and scalability.

Virtual Private Cloud – How it works and costs

How much does a Virtual Private Cloud cost at Centron?

With centron, there is no basic charge for a Virtual Private Cloud, and internal traffic within the VPC is not billed. The VPC isolates your servers within a private network: the web server remains publicly accessible, whilst the database behind it is accessible only internally – external attacks cannot reach them in the first place. For separate environments such as development, testing and production, you can set up a dedicated VPC for each with identical topology, without any cross-access between them. On request, the VPC can be connected to your company network via VPN, ensuring that internal services remain accessible.

VPC FAQ

Everything you need to know about virtual private clouds

What is a Virtual Private Cloud?

An isolated private network within ccloud³: your servers communicate with one another via internal IP addresses, isolated from the public internet and from other customers.

What do I need a VPC for?

For any multi-tier architecture: databases, caches and internal APIs do not belong on the public internet. Within the VPC, they remain accessible to your application – and invisible to everyone else.

Can I run more than one VPC?

Yes. Many customers separate production, staging and development into their own VPCs or isolate applications from one another – to ensure clear lines of responsibility and minimise cross-access.

How do I connect my company network to the VPC?

VPN connections enable sites to connect securely to your VPC – internal services can then be accessed from the company network without being exposed to the public. Our team will plan the connection with you.

How much does a VPC cost?

Private networks form part of the ccloud³ infrastructure – you only pay for servers, storage and any additional services you have booked, not for the network itself.
